Introduction to Igloo Ice Maker

igloo ice makerIgloo ice maker comes in as the top rated portable ice makers on the market. The interesting thing about that is that there really only two models. They just come in several different colors. The colors that are available make it the most popular because you can easily incorporate it into the design plan of your kitchen, both inside and outside kitchens. They are durable and reliant. Most of these ice makers last for 3-5 years. Even when they go out, they are not trash. You can turn them into Igloo and they will refurbish them. Igloo ice makers have few issues that cannot be resolved by trouble shooting on your own.

Here are the two Igloo ice makers that are available on the market. Both of them come in a variety of color options, but black, silver, and red are the most popular.

1) Igloo Portable Countertop Ice Maker

With a 2.3-quart water reservoir, this igloo ice machine offers you the ability to have plenty of ice with minimal work. The ice bin fills very quickly with the 6-minute water to ice cycle. The LCD screen shows you when you need to add water and when you need to dump the ice. You can easily run this igloo ice machine 24 hour a day to have a constant flow of ice. If you don’t dump the ice bin, it will melt right back into the reservoir and be recycled into ice once again.

One of the best pros to this machine is the design. It is sleek and compact. The ice bin sits directly over the reservoir. You can sit it anywhere that you can plug it in. It is fast, in fact you can get 26 pounds in a day. This is the machine to take camping with you, it fits anywhere and it small enough that cleaning it is simple. You can get it in a variety of color options so that it easily blends with the décor of your home or office

The cons of this Igloo ice machine are no different than any other portable ice maker, it isn’t refrigerated and doesn’t have a built in water line. That shouldn’t keep you from investing in this machine, because if you solve this problem it will no longer be portable.

2) Igloo ICE103 Counter Top Ice Maker

For simplicity and ease of use, this Ice Maker is the way to go. If you follow the directions, including the set up process, you can have more than enough ice to keep your drinks cool, no matter where you are. It works about the same as all other models, you fill it with water and you get ice. The functionality of this ice maker is at its prime when you let it produce ice as you need it, rather than expecting it to store ice as you go. It has great design, with the fan on the side, so that it can fit anywhere that you want to put it. This is a great machine to put in your office because it runs quiet.

Pros for the machine are its quick ability to produce enough ice to supply a party or office. You could even take it camping with you and easily keep your ice chest full of ice.  It is quiet and runs flawlessly. The controls are easy to use and let you know when to fill it with water and when you need to dump the ice bin. You have the ability to choose 3 different types of ice. The ice comes in hollow bullets that don’t melt as fast as the smaller pellets. These are the ideal type of ice to make smoothies with.

The con to this machine has to be the size. It has an oversize bucket, which is perfect when you need a lot of ice. The oversize bucket means that the overall size of the ice maker is larger than other ice makers. It will still fit on most countertops, but it does take up a lot of room on the countertop itself.

Tips on using your Igloo Ice Machine

igloo ice machineWhen you get your ice maker, you need to let it sit upright on the countertop for at least a few hours. The refrigerant has to settle. Then you need to give it a good cleaning. You will need to run a cleaning solution through a cycle followed by a cycle of just plain water to rinse the machine. You also need to remove all the moving pieces and clean them in warm soapy water to remove in packing material or dust from the machine. You will want to clean once every three months, depending on the water that you use. Filtered water will be better for your machine. It will cause less stress and build up on your machine. If you use filtered water, you will get better ice. The clearer your ice, the better quality of your water. These machines do not have the ability to add on a filter. It is up to you to control the quality of your ice.
Should you notice that your ice tastes funny or that you have funny smell coming from your ice, clean your machine. This will clear your machine of any debris, including dust, so that your machine works its best. You never want to add juice or flavoring syrup to your machine. This will cause your moving parts to get sticky or stop working altogether.

If you are in a hurry, or want harder ice, try using chilled filtered water in your machine. You will notice that this will help your machine to move through cycles more quickly.

There are times where the indicator light tends to stay on. Simply unplug your machine. Wait three to five minutes and plug your machine back in. This will reset your machine and get your indicator light to go off.

How to fix your Igloo Ice Maker in case of a problem :

These ice makers aren’t perfect. No kitchen device is going to work flawlessly for months without a single problem.  You will find that these machines are pretty simple to trouble shoot. A lot of the problems have the same trouble shooting steps so it might be worth looking at as it could save you  some time and money should you have any issues.

First common problem is that the indicator light fails to let you know when your ice bin is full. Now, you could have the reverse problem. You indicator light may never go off. This is very frustrating, but there are two ways that USUALLY fix it. Solution one is to unplug the ice maker  for 6 whole hours. Let it completely and totally sit idle. Clean it with a wet microfiber towel. Then dry it with a clean microfiber towel.  Then turn it back on. Run as normal. This should fix your problem. In as much as 75% of the time, this is going to fix the problem. It just needed a hard reset. This will help to reset the cycle so that the lights are turned off. It pretty much tells the machine that it needs to start over.Portable-Ice-Maker

The second solution to this problem is to hold down the cycle button for 30 seconds or until the light goes off. This can be followed by either turning the ice maker off or unplugging it if it doesn’t work. It is noteworthy to express that this does not commonly fix the problem. It is almost always recommended to follow up with solution one. Which is why it is listed as solution one, it is the best way to fix it.

For you extremist, there is another solution. It is solution X. It requires a screw driver, and it will completely wipe out your warranty so proceed with caution. It is not recommended. You shouldn’t open your Ice maker. However, there is a chance that the little LED indicator light that is hiding within has been compromised. It may be wet. It may be rusty. It may be gone. You don’t know unless you look.

8d5965d8-07ec-4f15-bae4-f23cd8746d42_400Here is what you are going to do. Dry your Igloo ice machine  completely and totally. Turn it upside down. Take off the four screws. They are Philips head so you shouldn’t have to buy any extra tools. Now, there is a metal plate on the machine with a window. In that window you will see a light. That is your indicator light. In some cases, you can just tighten the loose screw that holds the LED light into place. You may also be able to just wipe it down  with a microfiber towel. That will remove any water build up that is on it. In other cases, you may need to buy a replacement bulb. These bulbs are hard to find. Here is the extreme part. You can override the light all together. You will need an understanding of electricity or it is going to be a waste of your time because it just isn’t going to make it work. You won’t find the exact direction to do the override because if you don’t understand the electrical process then it is hard to explain.

Your next problem is an easy one. Your quality of ice has declined. Perhaps your ice is still there but it is thin, melts too easily, or just smells funny. You will need to drain your ice machine  totally and completely.  You will want to dry it with a microfiber towel. Microfiber will not leave the lent in your machine. You need to take apart every single moving part that there is. Remove the ice tray. Now you will want to soak the ice tray for a good hour in either a premade cleaning solution or a little vinegar and water.  That will get any residue or build up off your tray.

Once you have soaked your ice bin and moveable parts, you can begin to clean the rest of your machine. All you have to do is run the cleaning solution through it and throw away the ice. Then you need to run plain and clean water and run it and throw out the ice. Once you do this, you will find the quality of your ice will have greatly improved. In all honesty, you have to do this every three months as regular maintenance.

How you can treat your self and others using Ice Machine [RECIPE]

I really like my igloo counter top ice maker. My water trough flaps broke off on one side making it hard to get the ice out. Can we replace that whole two piece trough? Thank you for your time. Karen

I am so upset at this company. I bought this unit in March and it stoped working in December. My husband called costumer service and did everything that they asked to trouble shoot the unit. twice!!!! Even though it was extremely difficult to understand the person. I called the next day to see how we go about the warranty and was on the phone for 39 minutes. They kept coming back and asking for the same information from me. They wanted my credit card to pay for shipping insurance. Then I was told that I needed to pay to ship the 24 pound unit back to Michigan from California. I checked the warranty that was included with the unit information and there is nothing printed that the customer should have to pay for the unit shipping when it is on warranty. I talked to a supervisor who told me that I have to go on line to read the full warrant as I did not have all the info. This should have been included with the written warranty that that was sent with the product. So now he wanted me to check out the SECRET warranty online. I checked the shipping and Fed Ex is $41.53 and USPS is $60.95 This is unacceptable. I will never buy another product from them. We all know these units break so be prepared to pay money even when it is on warranty. They totally miss represented the warranty be it on propose or inadvertently. Inexcusable!!!!!!

I received the Igloo ICE 108 as a gift and it only worked 1 week. I did not get a gift receipt, so customer support would not even talk to me. In fact, the guy was exceptionally rude. I am sitting here with an ice maker that only works once, then has to be hard reset everytime. I also have a bad taste in my mouth about ever buying any Igloo product again. How does a company survive with such awful customer service?

Our Igloo ice maker started making a lot of noise after ice would drop and the pump would operate to refill the ice making area. We tried cleaning and doing all the things mentioned in the manual and from the internet. All to no avail.
So we contacted the company, they had us do it all again and told us to call back if it still had a problem. It did and we did. Then they told use to give our credit card so they could charge us $7 for a replacement unit ONCE OURS WAS RETURNED TO THEM.
We balked at the charge and would not give our credit card number to them. So they send we needed to enclose, in the returned unit, a money order, and a whole lot of other info. Plus put a whole bunch of numbers on the outside of the box.
We live out in the country, so getting the unit to a shipping company was a BIG problem, to say nothing of the expense of packing it up.
My suggestion, DON’T BUY ONE OF THESE
